Front Page Extensions

What happened to FrontPage?

After nine years of being an award-winning Web authoring tool, FrontPage will be discontinued in late 2006. We will continue to serve the diverse needs of our existing FrontPage customers with the introduction of two brand-new application building and Web authoring tools using the latest technologies: Office SharePoint Designer 2007 for the enterprise information workers and Expression Web for the professional Web designer.

Frontpage is dead, time to learn a new application, I'd suggest Dreamweaver it seems to be very very popular.

I've tried and failed (as have others) to get Frontpage reliably working with PHP5 with no luck.

So, if you absolutely need Frontpage we will try to set you up on a server with PHP4 and Frontpage extensions that work reliably, but we're retiring php4 servers as fast as we can so this is only a stopgap measure.

One thing you can try - you can actually publish with Frontpage using plain old FTP just tell it to use FTP and give it the FTP server, your username/password and tell it to publish to /public_html (if you have 1 domain) or /home/username/domains/yourdomain.com/public_html for multiple domains.

Anyway if you absolutely need Frontpage let us know and we'll get an account setup for you on a server with PHP4 and Frontpage at least so long as they exist.

BUT keep in mind, the very next security hole found in Frontpage means -> it will not be fixed!!! <- Microsoft has decreed Frontpage dead and will not ALLOW anyone to fix it if it is found broken either! So the NEXT security hole for the extensions (serverside) means we will HAVE to disable it network wide or risk being hacked because we won't be (and no one else will either) given ANY future updates or bug fixes. So the clock is TICKING on Frontpage extensions.
